C3 had eight athletes running in the PEX Championships, held at Belmont Plateau early Saturday morning. Overall there were more than 200 athletes, male and female, competing in the various age groups. The season began seven weeks ago and each week C3 athletes worked to improve their time from previous weeks. Some youth saw huge improvements over the course of the season. Bryan Bennett, running in 11-12 Boys improved his time by almost 8 minutes in the 3000M. Bennett who was new to Cross Country this year, ran the course in 28 minutes his first week out. But near season end Bennett improved his time to 20:38. Even those who were not new to the sport showed improvement over the last seven weeks. C3’s Derek Bryant also running in 11-12 Boys continued to cut seconds from his time. In early meets he ran a 16:37 and 16:25, but at the close of the season Bryant came in at 15:32 bettering his own time by almost a full minute.
For the C3 Girls, a big progress was recorded by Ava Henry who ran the first meet of the season in 16:03 but just two weeks later posted a time of 14:30 shaving almost a minute and half from her initial time. Kathryn Parker also in the 8 & Under Division posted a personal best in Week 4 with a time of 11:54.
In usual C3 tradition these athletes focused on chasing the clock, not the competition. During the improvement process each child gained new ground by creating personal bests that they take with them to next season, next year and beyond. In Cross Country, the legends of the Fall are those that leave it all on the course, and this is a goal for the Clock Chasers in every season. Although Cross Country has come to a close, the chase continues indoors next. Registration for Indoor Track new and returning youth is November 9 and 10th. The chase continues…
